.it's a wonderful town.

In December 2010, it began. New York City was the epicenter and gods and mortals of bygone days were drawn there. Shadows of their former selves, not all remembered who they were and none knew that their lives had become playthings for Khaos.

In March 2012, following who knows what manner of tug of war (because it is always, always a game), our gods and goddesses, our nymphs and our angels, our mortals and, yes, even our mythical animals were returned to New York City.

They do say it's the city that never sleeps. It is only natural that the city's puppet-master never sleeps, either.

You can try to break the cycle but whether you're Odin All-Father or Zeus Thunderer, whether you're a Queen of Hell or a Queen of Sparta, you will fail. Settle in, instead, and learn to roll with the punches.

Applications open; 8th (23:59 EST) - 16th (23:59 EST) every month.

Mythopoeics started in Dec. 2010 over at livejournal! For previous events, shenanigans and such please look over at our livejournal communities.

.kindred soul cracked spirit. it has to end to begin.
In the beginning, there was Khaos.

From it came everything else, and from everything that Khaos was, gods came. You know them from when they were infinite and absolute - their myths, their stories, their legends.

They weren't supposed to die - but worry not, for death is not an end. Their mortal shells hold their immortal souls, a new beginning each turn of the wheel. They bleed. They die.

Khaos collects.

Deities have been reborn once again as mortals in 2010. Welcome to NYC, the cosmopolitan capital of the world, breathe in that fresh air- enjoy that cup of latte (it may well be your last). Your mortal life has been spent spoiled and rich, insignificant with its ease.

It's time to pay up.

Apps & Reserves- Open from 9th till the 16th Open for application: Aztec, Celtic, Egyptian, Greek, Hindu, Judeo-Christian, Mesopotamian, Native American, Slavic and Norse. Expect more pantheon openings in the future as plot progresses along.

an online magazine of Science Fiction & Fantasy with a twist

Crossed Genres (crossedgenres) is still accepting art submissions for its inaugural issue, to be released December 1! We have our cover art, but we are still looking for black & white inside art.

Submissions should be roughly in the proportions of 8.5” x 11” (can be larger). Any media but photomanips are accepted. Images should be relatively tame (artistic nudity and non-graphic violence are acceptable) and not use previously copyrighted material. Beyond that, so long as they contain at least some element of Science Fiction and/or Fantasy, anything goes!

Crossed Genres will also contain interviews, and articles about the current genre, SF/F in general and the craft and business of writing. The Magazine is free! Please sign up to get the mailing list!

We also have a growing list of writer-related links (suggest a new one!), forums discussing all aspects of writing, and more!

So please visit the website, and sign up for the mailing list! The first genre has been posted and is accepting submissions for Issue #1, to be released December 1. Please consider making a submission!

I'm not sure if this is allowed, but we're looking for people to play Mythical Creatures over at this RPG!

It’s the collision of two very different worlds. The 21st century is about new technology, science, and mass communication. What in the world would we do with a mermaid?

The first mermaid has been caught and in the custody of the United States government, and she’s been sent to the top-secret Ausflucht Research Facility of the Ausflucht University in Germany. And the world's supernatural beings are not at all pleased.

Covertly, every kind of mythical creature is working together to infiltrate the school and research team unsuspected to return the mermaid to safety before her existence is publicized globally.

While the supernatural attempt to subvert the sudden human inquiry, people from all over the world come together to try to solve this genetic enigma. If they succeed, it can only mean disaster for every supernatural species on earth, but how far are the other willing to go to stop them?

And what kind of secrets is our darling mermaid keeping from both sides?

New Dryad work

Begun originally in August of 2007, this surreal painting went through about five incarnations, before it evolved into the piece you see here.

The word 'mind' evokes something which is an attentive supervisor, or a nanny for our impulses, and I wanted to explore the state then, of being absent minded-that which becomes detached and seperate from the process of thinking-symbolised here by a fragile egg, taking flight from a rooted muse.

Called 'Nature of the Fragile Mind', I feel this is one of my strongest works, and you can bid on it by clicking the picture below:

Belated Valentines piecemeal

The weekend was spent completing my current piece-a sort of post Valentines character, called 'Mourning Star' whose origins began as a tatoo idea for a freind, and which I ultimately fleshed out into the piece you see before you. Its an acrylic on panel and her tail is in gold paint, so its all shiney. The concept reads thus:

'And through a congealed crimson sky, the musing eye at the core of the brittle world, stared 'pon the mortal soul of man, and wept tears of molten gold...'

Anyway, you know the drill by now-available for seven days on EBay-starting bid $30, or dare I hope it be snapped up for $200...

Happy Monday everyone

New David Gough Art prints

This piece has been gestating in my head, possibly now for three years. In actuality, it was to be the concluding piece to herald the end of the urban fairies, but at the time it felt too visceral, and didn't truly form its meaning or its title until recently, when somewhat older, uglier and wiser, it took on a whole different resonance for me.

I can't tell you how utterly proud I am of this beautiful work, astutely titled "Done" it's in oils which I am having a love affair with at the moment, its on a 16" x 20" stretched canvas, and I've put a number of limited edition prints on EBay:
